Stock market crash: Sensex plunges 888 points, well below 19,750. Infosys reservoirs 8%; IT loses 4%
Both major equity benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty, tumbled on Friday on a weak Infosys Q1FY24 report, triggering a rout in IT stocks and profit booking. The S&P BSE Sensex plunged 888 points (1.3%) to end the session at 66,684. During intraday trading, Sensex lost more than 1,000 points to hit a low of 66,534. In contrast, NSE Nifty50 settled at 19,745, down 234 points (1.17%). It hit a low of 19,700. On the 30-stock Sensex platform, Infosys fell 8.18% as the IT company’s sharp downgrade to its growth forecast caught most brokers by surprise. HUL, HCL, Reliance, Wipro, TCS, TechM were among the other big losers. On the other hand, L&T, NTPC, SBI, Kotak Bank, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank emerged winners.
Go First obtains DGCA approval to resume flights under certain conditions
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) announced on Friday that it had approved Go First’s plan to restart operations with 15 aircraft and 114 daily flights, under certain conditions. Low-cost carrier Go First, which stopped flying on May 3, is in the process of insolvency resolution. In a statement, the aviation regulator said the airline’s recovery plan for operating 15 planes and 114 daily flights has been reviewed and accepted. “Go First may resume scheduled flight operations upon availability of interim funding and flight program approval by the DGCA. In addition, Go First has been instructed to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, to ensure the continued airworthiness of aircraft engaged in operations, and to subject each aircraft to a satisfactory treatment flight prior to deployment for flight operations,” the aviation regulator’s notification said.

Wamsi Mohan, global securities analyst at BoA, said that the official unveiling of the iPhone 15 series may be delayed for “a few weeks”, which means we won’t see the launch of the iPhone 15 series in September. Mohan, in a research note shared with Barrons, mentioned that the launch could take place in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2023.
